Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) is based on reciprocal agreements between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Established in 1973, the CCSEP will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2018. The CCSEP was the result of an undertaking by then Chinese premier Zhou Enlai and Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Over the past 44 years, more than 1000 scholars have participated in the program. Canadian scholars have brought new perspectives to their host country and brought back enhanced knowledge and understanding of China.

The original Memorandum of Understanding was modified in 2016 to allow for a wider range of applicants.
