The C.D. Howe Scholarship Endowment Fund Thunder Bay / Port Arthur Scholarship Program

Objective: The objective of this program is to assist students from Thunder Bay and C.D. Howe’s former constituency of Port Arthur to pursue an undergraduate degree in any field at a Canadian university. The Thunder Bay area includes the following school boards: Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and the Superior North Catholic District School Board. The former constituency of Port Arthur includes the following school boards: Lakehead District School Board, Superior Greenstone District School Board and the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales.

Number: Up to 2 entrance scholarships will be available at the bachelor level, 1 to a student from Thunder Bay and 1 to a student from C.D. Howe’s former constituency of Port Arthur.

These scholarships are valued at $5,500 CAD per year, tenable for up to 4 consecutive years or until first degree is obtained.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants must be:

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • A resident of Thunder Bay or the former federal constituency of Port Arthur that includes:
  • Western boundary – the former City of Port Arthur located on the main line of Canadian Pacific Railways and the Municipality of Armstrong located on the main line of Canadian National Railways
  • Eastern boundary – the Municipality of White River on the main line of Canadian Pacific Railways and the Municipality of Horne payne on the main line of Canadian National Railways
  • Southern boundary – the main line of Canadian Pacific Railways
  • Northern boundary – James Bay
  • Entering the first year of full time studies in a first bachelor degree program;
  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 80% (or equivalent) over the last 3 terms of available marks. Non-academic courses such as career or personal development related courses will not be considered.
