Jim Fielding Memorial Bursary

Value: $60,000 – maximum of $15,000 per year and renewable for three years (equivalent to the cost of tuition, cost of residence (if applicable), Super Saver Meal Plan and cost of books and equipment). Established by his children, Norinne, Murray and Craig. Mr. Jim Fielding was born, raised and lived his life in the Sudbury area. He was proud to be a member of a large well known area family and he relished every opportunity to be in attendance at numerous family occasions. Jim held the position of Chairman of the Board of Alexander Centre Industries Ltd. (ACIL), Waters and associate companies. Further, he was elected as Director of Canadian Pacific on May 7th, 1986 and continued serving in that capacity through to his successful re-election in April 2000. He also had a passion for learning. He was highly respected in the business community, known as a caring and considerate employer who was always interested in others. This bursary was created to provide students with an opportunity to attend university and realize their fullest potential. It will be awarded to students who may have struggled academically because of financial and personal challenges that have limited their ability to concentrate on their studies. Preference will be given to students pursuing applied studies. Recipients cannot be eligible to hold any other awards with a value of $1,000 or more. To renew the scholarship, students must satisfy the passing grade requirements of their degree, maintain full-time status, and complete 30 credits (the normal academic workload) in a 12 month period to be eligible to renew the bursary. Application form is required. Applicants will be asked to upload two reference letters from the following: a teacher, counselor or professional. Their letter should speak of how you have struggled academically because of financial and personal challenges. Preference will be given to students pursuing applied studies.
