Jack Young (1939 to 2017) was a first generation university student who went on to become an Engineering professor. His 40-year career began as a professor of Engineering at Laurentian University and continued as a professor of Survey Science at the University of Toronto. He went on to build a successful Engineering and Land Survey company, and was President of the Ontario Land Surveyors. He was a mentor to many students and enjoyed their success immensely.
This award will recognize a second or third-year student enrolled in Engineering, with a minimum B+ cumulative GPA in this program. The applicant be a first generation student from Northern Ontario and not in receipt of other scholarships, bursaries or OSAP in excess of $1,000. If no student in Engineering is eligible, the award is to be deferred to the following year.
