The purpose of this award is to provide assistance to aid a student of Laurentian University who is enrolled in the Geology program who has achieved a minimum 75% average. Dr. Robert Williams, a retired Calgary surgeon, was 89 years old when he followed in the footsteps of his three granddaughters and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Laurentian University. Dr. Williams embodies the term lifelong learner. He got his first degree in general science in 1941 from the University of Alberta. Two years later, he graduated with a doctor of medicine. He did postgraduate work in surgery in Toronto and Edinburgh, Scotland, then started to practice at the Calgary General Hospital. At the age of 68, he got his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
